The FUNK is our all-around-acro-freestyle-flocking-fun-relaxed-sporty-skydive-wingsuit-thingy. Actually, we're pretty confident that you can tell what this thing is for just by looking at it. In a nutshell, it's our go-to suit for fun-flying in the skydive environment: the FUNK does it all. This is our answer to the many pilots who have been asking us for a suit that fits in the range between the SWIFT and COLUGO.
The FUNK has been in development since before the SWIFT launched, and during its evolution we gradually fine-tuned the internal pressure, profile thickness, and stance. We have arrived at a planform that yields a balanced and stable feel while back-flying; many of our test pilots have remarked that it is almost absurdly stable on its back. One of our tasks during development was finding a good balance between stability in belly / backfly positions, while maintaining ease of transition. We think that we have found an excellent compromise, and the FUNK features an extra-long arm-wing zip which allows pilots to tailor the internal pressure to their style of flying.
The FUNK's planform necessitates a long and diagonally swept trailing edge on the arm wing, which presents a large opportunity for turbulation as the airflow disconnects here. For that reason, mini-ribs were deemed necessary in the arm wing, but in the end we decided to increase the total number of arm wing cells. This decreased drag at the trailing edge, of course, but also increased general efficiency of the arm wing. These extra ribs do not increase the wing's rigidity – instead, they create a sharper feel when initiating transitions and banking turns.

THE LEADING EDGE
Like all of our suits, the FUNK features a non-flexible profile combined with an easy-stretch wrist design which increases safety and comfort during the pull and deployment process. Reaching the BOC is clean and simple, as with all of our designs, and reaching the toggles / risers is achieved simply by punching forward after your PC toss, and then reaching up. This leading edge design remains our favorite solution as it provides a smooth surface through a variety of angles of attack, and excellent performance while in a position of max glide. Our comparative testing has shown that the FUNK is a step above other similar suits in terms of glide and speed.
THE STANCE AND FLYING POSITION
Slightly wider than the other suits in our range, the FUNK's leg wing provides a steady base for acro maneuvers and backflying. No tricky toe or leg positions are necessary to max out the suit, just relax and let the leg wing inflate to its natural profile. The arm position needed is also relaxed and natural, with no need to contort your elbows or shoulders – just relax and let it fly. Max glide is found simply by extending fully from shoulders to toes, and de-arching gently.
The FUNK is a forgiving and easy to use wingsuit, for intermediate to expert pilots. Get into some barrel rolls, back-flying, linked flying, and steeper formations, and at the end of your flight you can reach back for a clean pull and then reach up to control your risers.
Yes, the FUNK is fun to BASE jump. If you want to get funky at a big steep cliff somewhere, then the FUNK has what you need to get going quickly. Like all of our suits, the BOC deployment is clean and easy thanks to our leading edge / wrist design, and reaching your brakes after deployment is simple and immediate. Do not underestimate the importance of these features, they are very important for use in the skydive and BASE environments.
The FUNK is a gripperless design. The thumbloops are optional: some pilots find that they add a level of agility to the suit during transitions and maneuvers while some pilots enjoy flying with hands completely free. When we fly using the thumbloops, our habit is to adjust them to a size that is not too tight. In this way, after break-off you can flip them off of your thumb in order to punch forward and reach up for your risers / toggles. If you prefer to unzip your arms instead, you may choose to keep the thumbloops on during deployment.
The Funk features long zippers placed at the inside arm and leg wing sections. These zippers allow you to choose the amount of internal pressure that is best for your style of flying. Some pilots prefer the zips almost entirely open, and some pilots prefer them totally closed. In the open position, the suit will feel “smaller” and more maneuverable. In the closed position, the suit will feel more powerful with higher internal pressure. Depending on your taste and the type of flying you do, adjust the zips symmetrically to tune the pressure.

INNIE-OUTIE (BASE MODE)
Easily transition between BASE Mode (harness inside), or Skydive Mode (harness outside). While in BASE mode, harness is entirely inside the chest compartment for less drag, and more glide (increased surface). There are no exposed holes when in BASE mode as the zippers close off the chest completely.
INNIE-OUTIE (SKYDIVE MODE)
Even if your focus is BASE jumping, it's important to be able to skydive your suit safely. While in skydive mode, handles are completely exposed at the chest and easy to access. For more info regarding this system's use in the skydive environment, click here.
Rapid Arm Deployment. An incredibly simple arced cut at the wrist makes it even easier to both reach your PC at pull time, and your toggles during opening. This basic innovation is an improvement to any wingsuit and makes the BOC pull safe and intuitive.
The bottom surface of the leading edge is Mylar-reinforced to maintain profile structure and proper feeding of the inlets.
When flying in BASE mode, these flexible panels at the shoulders relieve stress on your suit during openings. Also, bar-tacks at key areas help to prevent seam failure.
lightweight, durable, and more stable than mesh, Porcher Sport Skytex is renowned for its mechanical stability. Helps to reduce overall weight and pack volume.
A mesh leg wing pocket, for your nuts and stuff. Store your gear close to your center of gravity without having it affect the fit of your suit.
A standard feature on certain models. This highly flexible, durable, and wrinkle-free material is ideal for the leading edge. Static (non-flexible) internal construction prevents leading edge deformation, meaning that the arm is flexible at the wrist area, but the profile is stable.
All of our suits are built to the most exacting specifications, and tested for airtight symmetry in our production facility at multiple points along the construction process. The end result is the highest build quality that we have ever seen.
SUPER SEXY ZIPPERS
We want your suit to look good. And not like other suits. We've ordered custom color YKK #10 Coil zips that will be standard on all suits, at no extra charge. Choose between five different colors when you order.
Every suit comes standard with a Carbon Aero Jack hook knife installed on the front of the suit, in a location that is ideal for jumping your wingsuit with your BASE harness inside the suit, in BASE mode.
Main Surfaces: Our main concern was finding an ideal ratio between weight and durability, along with high mechanical stability and good results in stretch and tear tests. Our main surface fabric is a 210D Ripstop, with very low stretch, and a good rigidity to comfort ratio.
Internal Ribs: All ribs are constructed from the renowned Porcher Skytex 40, which has an unparalleled stability-to-weight ratio.
Leading Edge Mylar: We offer two choices for wing surface Mylar reinforcement on your Squirrel Suit:
- Porcher Sport (white / translucent). This is our standard option.
- Dimension Polyant Carbon-Graphite (black / clear). The highest quality laminate on the market, with a carbon and graphite weave. It's black, and it's more rigid, but there is not a measureable performance difference over the Porcher mylar.
